paint chips
by 151ranch on
I have rust spots from chips also... but it is quite obvious that the rust occurs where the paint is missing. Are you trying to say that there are rust spots on top? Honda's paint quality is less than average. It has been my experience that Honda products scratch and chip very easily, especially with the TSX's hood. If the rust occurs where the paint is chipped, I really don't think Acura is going to help you. What color is your TSX? Because it seems like the Carbon is particularly susceptible
Re: Xterra 4x4 problems [ningcompoop]
by Boris2 on Thu Dec 04 09:29:57 PST 2008
I've had similar problem on Isuzu Rodeo that I used to have. Everything was appearing to be fine but the 4x4 wasn't really engaging. I also heard the noise coming from the front. It ended up being one of the axle being dislodged from the socket and even though the 4x4 was engaging the axle was not really getting locked. It was pretty dangerous too as the axle wasn't really locked in place and could have separated at any time. The reason for that problem was that I did a service not too far before at Midas and when didn't install some components right so the axcel slipped from the socket.
Re: Subaru Impreza outback sport price- good? [ameliabedilia]

I think invoice or below is what you should be shooting for. It looks like that is right around there. Perhaps you can negotiate a better rate to bring in more savings if you feel the price is right.
Ford not comitted to CVT
by vrm on Wed Dec 03 09:40:53 PST 2008
The CVT does have advantages over the 5 and 6 speed transmissions. However, it is clear that Ford is not committed to the CVT. As far as I know, they are not using the CVT in any other vehicles. Compare this with Nissan. They are committed to the CVT and are introducing this in different product lines.

You can wheel with the same tires, but honestly it is going to look really stupid with a 4" to 6" lift and stock tires. :) Think of a roller skate. Here's a pic of my TJ with just a 3" lift and 1" BL running stock 30's. Imagine a bigger lift with yours. :) The lift really isn't going to help you a whole lot if you are keeping the same size tires. Your low point will still be the axles. Offroad, you'll still get good articulation with a decent 4-6" lift, but again, your tires will still come in to play. However, if you want to go to 33's you'd be MUCH better off. My wheel is an 8: wheel, but I now have 33x12.5" Mud Terrains on it. A skinny wheel is not necessarily bad for offroad. It provides a good lip for the wider tire. Here's how mine is now. Now keep in mind, if you air down your tires for offroad, you don't want to air down TOO much or you'll lose the bead. Airing down is good for better traction, AND it will help keep branches, sharp rocks, etc from puncturing a piece of rubber at full inflation. You DO lose some height doing this, but the traction gain is well worth it. Hope that helps some. -Paul
Re: 97 lift kit [97wrangler1]
by erickpl on Wed Dec 03 09:31:45 PST 2008
Not a 4" kit, but I've installed a few (OME 2.75" and RE 3.5"). Tools needed: Socket wrenches Crescent wrenches Jack stands spring compressors (available at Autozone for rental - free when returned). channel pliers (for swapping shocks) floor jack Misc screw drivers. If you are changing brake lines you need to tools to bleed brakes as well. If you are swapping in a drop pitman arm (not really recommended for a 4" lift), you'll need a pitman arm puller. If you are doing a Slip yoke setup for the rear driveshaft, you'll need tools to adjust pinion angle on the rear axle, clip removal tools, etc. I have no clue what is in the RC 4" lift, so I'm throwing out what you have to worry about: 1. Shock swap 2. Spring swap 3. Track bar installation to recenter axles left to right 4. Control arm replacement - setting castor 5. Bump stop installation 6. Brake line extensions to handle flex offroad 7. SYE/DS setup or transfer case drop 8. Engine and/or body lift. I did my suspension lift in 1 day totally alone with zero help. No problems. I went slow and thought each step through. When you finish, enjoy the fruits of your labor, but be sure to check EVERY bolt you touched during the process to ensure they are all back in place and SECURED to proper spec before driving it. -Paul
