Re: AWD may be going bad [kurtamaxxxguy]

From my experience, no, Kurt, that is not normal (broken in or not!). I think you should get it checked out ASAP. Does it happen every time you put in drive, only when cold, only occasionally? I somewhat hope it is every time, as that will make the "could not replicate" excuse commonly encountered at dealerships a non-issue. Good luck.... :(

Yes, but Outback must be doing fairly well, as last I saw there were no incentives on the Outback. This time last year, there was a $1500 incentive. The year before, it was $750. I think between the upgrades to Impreza, the new Forester, and the upgrades to Outback (VDC across the lineup), Subaru is a very compelling purchase for many people right now. With the instability in the economy, it is all about value, versatility, and longevity.

It can and does happen, though it is far rarer of an occurrence than it once was. I think you are the first person of whom I have heard with this problem on the 05 and later models within Subaru's line. Unless there is an issue with the car's block or head, I highly doubt it will be a problem that recurs before 200,000 miles, if at all. You might consider requesting an extended warranty on the head gaskets to guard against being slapped with a hefty bill in the event of another premature failure. If there is strong resistance to agreeing, perhaps Subaru has better reason for that lack of confidence than the rest of us. ;) If that is the case, make sure you let us know! :surprise:

I think B.S. They did not install or tighten something properly, and I would not drive the vehicle until it is fixed. Take it to another shop, get it fixed, and present the first shop with the bill if they are not willing (or capable) of fixing it themselves.

Hahahaha! No, it was not your ABS system, it was your tires. Subaru vehicles can deceive you because they will go like hell, even with awful tires, while most everything else is standing still spinning. But, you still have to stop, and the only thing that is there to get the job done are your brakes and your tires, and the buck stops with the tires. ;)
