Re: Oil dropped under $55 today, down over $2 [nippononly]

As soon as the economy recovers, which will happen much sooner than you get rid of your next new car or truck, summer gas will be $4.50/gallon again. Are you saying the economy will recover and gas will be at $4.50 by summer? Now I have to hope you are wrong. If gas gets to $4.50 diesel will be over $5.00 and trucking will just about roll to a standstill. People will have to think about picking up something that will tow because you will need a trailer to haul the money it will take to get out of the grocery store.

"Well you can bet that anything built by GM will be falling apart shortly after the warranty expires if not before." And there is the beauty of nominating the Reno. You don't have to wait till the warrentee for it to fall apart. From the dependability studies you can watch it fall apart right before your eyes. Maybe even faster than a VW? Well maybe not that fast but pretty quick. Faster than a Kia Reo? Well even they are rated better than a Reno. But I still say darn the luck the Subaru Baja is gone. It was an easy pick. But then the Scions aren't pretty and they aren't Toyota dependable so there is still hope.
Bailout Dead for now...
by gagrice on Mon Nov 17 21:20:36 PST 2008
Seems the Democrats do not want to use the money allocated in the Energy bill to bail out the Big 3. Bush has said he did not want to spend all the money in the bailout. He will leave over half for Obama to decide. Obama makes the decision which voters he will pay back. GM folding will be forgotten in a year. Except for the suckers with their cars that were supposed to be covered by warranty. NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BUY A GM VEHICLE NOW. Ford will probably come out stronger as will Toyota and the other transplants.
They are trying to change the deal on me
by chuckjr on Mon Nov 17 21:05:28 PST 2008
I picked up my 09 base yesterday. Took the new money factor of .0021 at $100 under invoice. Price - $32795 $595 acquisition fee $819 drive off (first + DMV = no cap reduction) 3 yrs (12k miles) at $411.25/month ($445 with CA tax) I got home and noticed a ding on the trunk lid - called and they said they'd fix it. Today the internet manager called to say that the special MF was only for the Tech and that it needed to be changed to .0251 Adding $11 in after tax dollars to the payment. When can you come in and sign the new papers? I asked them to adjust the purchase price so that the payment stays the same, or if it has to go up then throw in the BS oil changes/tire rotation for the extent of the lease they tried to sell me or the scratch and dent policy. He said no. I said I'd drop off the keys when i could (i worked 5AM until 8pm today and will do the same all week). He told me that I would be driving the car without a contract. Huh? What did i sign yesterday? What was all the DMV and transfer of title paperwork i have? I asked to speak with the GM and left a message. We'll see how it plays out.

Because for years the Big 3 have been derided for doing this. Well, that's because they suck at it...

My father has a modest pension nothing like gagrice, gets or wages gagrice, made Not sure what you mean by modest. I can tell you after 37 years in the Teamsters my retirement is not even close to the guys in the IBEW or Operating Engineers. Plus I did not get any health care or dental. That would have equaled about $950 per month. So if your dad gets Health care he is ahead of me there. Then when you take into consideration the fact that I was remote the last 25 years that should be worth something. I would imagine your dad was home most nights. Where I was in a 10 X10 cubicle for half the nights of those 25 years. Again anyone wanting to go remote there are plenty of jobs for those with skills. One of my friends retired at 57 or 6 years younger than I did with twice the monthly pension I get. He was a mechanic on the pipeline and put in a lot of 12 week shifts 12-16 hours per day. Is your dad old enough to retire? If not he should be looking for a job to supplement his pension until SS kicks in.
