Re: Stocking Stuffer Time! [rsholland]

$50k!? But Santa... ;) OK, OK, let's see. I've had my eye on a PRHT Miata. In fact I already have the price handy. I can't decide between a basic Sport model or a GT, so let me present 2 scenarios: $26,844 for a 2009 Forester XT Ltd auto $22,524 for a 2008 PRHT Miata Sport manual $632 gas card to offset about 2 years of premium fuel surcharges for both or... $26,290 for a 2008 PRHT Miata GT manual loaded up $22,838 for a 2009 Forester 5MT X Premium AWP + PZEV $872 gas card for the premium fuel for the Miata It would be tough to choose between those two. We already have an auto Forester, but it's not an XT, then again I'd really like to have a manual. I think I'll take the Miata GT and the Forester 5MT, Santa. :shades:
Re: 17 MPG [daharon]

WOW! 17mpg is pretty low for our MZ5s, what brand fuel are you using? Cheaply priced gas is usually poor quality as well, and does not yield as good MPG, IMHO. I know its difficult to dish out a little bit more money on higher priced (higher quality) gas because of our economic crisis status, but maybe that is the problem with your MZ5, or perhaps a faulty gas cap and/or a dirty air filter. What type of oil do you use? Stay with the reccomended 5W20 weight because this thin oil is recommended and put in place to improve fuel economy. Let us know if any changes.
diesel here
by nippononly on Tue Dec 02 07:01:27 PST 2008
is $2.99, while regular unleaded is now $1.93. That's 50% more for the diesel? No thanks! I can see why Subaru is weighing its options regarding making the diesel boxer 50-state compliant - they could bring it here just in time for gas prices to drop and no-one would buy it! I wish they had gone ahead with the hybrid - they could have shared Toyota's HSD without much cost, presumably, since Toyota is part owner these days. I suppose it would have been difficult to develop that powertrain to include Subaru's boxer 2.0
Re: 99 626 Starting problem [backy]

The battery is about 2 years old, but is not the problem. It cranks the car fine for about 10 minutes before wearing down. It charges fine. Yes, it has started this issue since it was cold here in MN. I put the car in the my heated garage last night and charged the battery. It fired right up this morning. I'm now wondering if it is due to gas line freeze? I put some Isopropyl achohol into the tank to hopefully take care of that.
Re: 97 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L Stalling and Rough Running [seamusz]

Sounds like the classic sign of fuel pump failure. More than likely your gas gauge is reading about 1/4 tank or less at the time the problem starts. I say this because the fuel cools the pump in the tank and when the pump is not functioning properly it will over heat more easily than at normal operation and cause it to stop working as a safety feature. This is not a simple fix it will require you to drop the fuel tank to replace the pump. The pump for a good one will run you any where from $300 to $375 and labor will be about $200. The "lean code" is because there isn't enuff fuel getting to each cylinder to read correctly. Had the same problem at about 105,000.

Why? At fuel costing now $1/gal more (or 50%) where are the savings? Let's see, you get: 1. Awkwardly short powerband 2. Increased engine noise 3. Clunky noise (have you every compared gas to diesel) 4. Increased and unfamiliar maintenance Yeah makes perfect sense. Just as much as first hybrids did at 5 grand over sticker.
