2001 Jetta 2.0L Oil Consumption
by jodar96 on Tue Nov 18 04:21:36 PST 2008
Does anyone know how to slow down the oil consumption of this engine? The engine uses about a quart every 700 miles. The car has 91K miles and ir runs great. There is zero oil leak and there is no smoke out of tail pipe at any time. Is there any special product or oil to use? I have been using 5-30W name brand oil. Thanks, Joe
Bailout Dead for now...
by gagrice on Mon Nov 17 21:20:36 PST 2008
Seems the Democrats do not want to use the money allocated in the Energy bill to bail out the Big 3. Bush has said he did not want to spend all the money in the bailout. He will leave over half for Obama to decide. Obama makes the decision which voters he will pay back. GM folding will be forgotten in a year. Except for the suckers with their cars that were supposed to be covered by warranty. NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BUY A GM VEHICLE NOW. Ford will probably come out stronger as will Toyota and the other transplants.
Re: No Prius's here [tiff_c]

That's too bad about the Dealer because the Prius is more than a hybrid . It's a kind of phenomina. Once you have one you become a pleasantly obcessive devotee. The Fit is by all means a great car. I've owned several Hondas going all the way back to the delightfull Honda 600 Coupe 1970. 2 cyl. air-cooled skateboard with 10" wheels. She got 42 mpgs back when gas was well under a buck if I remember right.

Re: 2009 Maxima v 2009 Mazda6 [aviboy97]
by tracguy on Mon Nov 17 12:53:20 PST 2008
I was also looking at the Mazda6 but I did end up buying a 09 Maxima (SV premium / tech)a couple of weeks ago. I liked the Mazda but I thought the Max was a little plusher, liked the music box hard drive and the nav system. The Ipod integration is first rate also. I also like the Max's styling a little more than the Mazda. Premium is required, not suggested. I'm appears I'm getting about 23mpg (city, freeway short trips) but only have 500 miles on it so take these numbers with a grain of salt. Actualy I think the 09 Max is actually a little smaller than the 08. If I hadn't gotten a good deal I would have gone down the street and bought a Mazda6. I like the blindspot monitor and the the fit and finish are good.
blah blah blah

warning .... it's one of *those* posts ... we have a paraprofessional who put in her letter of resignation the first week of October, and stated her intention to remain 'on the job' until the end of October to allow time for a replacement to be hired ... end of October came and we had no replacement .... told to sub the position until one could be found ... we've had misunderstandings in the past about who posts the sub position, so I asked the other teacher to call the main office to be sure if they were listing it online, or if we were supposed to do it .. office said they'd take care of it ... first week of November dawns ... and no sub to be with the child ... turns out it was never even posted ..... had a sub the rest of the week, though .. and she was good with the child ... by the third day or so, we were talking about having them interview her if she would be interested... however, before we could give it time to see if we wanted to do that, we had an email that we'd have a new para starting on Nov 10 ... Oops, the end of the week, we had another email saying that she wouldn't start until Nov 17, so continue to sub the position ... week of Nov 10, we had the same sub back on Mon, Tues, and Fri .. and one of our 'regular' subs on Wed, Thur ... then last Thur we get an email saying that the new para (who hadn't even started yet) had decided not to take the position after all and had submitted a letter of resignation (thought you had to start a job before you resigned it!) ... at least they are set to interview the sub we've had for most of the last 2 weeks .... this is the pits .... partly because the kid is on my caseload, and I'm having to do 'extra' work as long as he has subs .... grrrrrrr ok .. I'm done now .. and ready to hit the snow in my Outback this morning !
