I prefer the Malibu's look and definitely the option for the 4 cyl engine which Saturn doesn't offer. Well over 50% if not 75% of midsized autos are 4cyl models. Not to offer one is a decision to marginalize onesself. However... the trunk opening ( or lack thereof ) in the Malibu is a HUGE mistake. It's a big trunk it's just than you can't put anything into it that isn't near flat. Other than that the Malibu is every bit a serious competitor in a very crowded market.

You don't understand the first concept of the economics of capitalism. Greed. 'Why would they leave?', gagrice correctly asked. GREED is why they won't leave. Greed and profits are the two basic pillars of capitalism. This country needs at a minimum 10 million new vehicles annually. 12-14 million units is a 'normal' year in this new tighter environment. Any company that has a multi-billion dollar manufacturing presence here and is making $Billions in profits here is not going to just up and leave....except the Detroit 3 which can't seem to exit fast enough. In fact the 'outsiders' are increasing their presence here while the D3 are shrinking their's. Why? There's money to be made here...$Billions!!! As to your other point about the cost of labor, you simply have no idea of what you're talking about. With the current $ vs JY exchange rate the US labor costs are among the lowest among the developed countries. I assume from your parrotted statements that you are a UAW member. Do you realize that one of the key points that the UAW wanted to happen has just occurred? Hmmmm....? It's been pushing for the JY / US$ to trade for less than 100 / 1 for years and years...that's the whole accusation of currency manipulation. Well for the past several months it's been happening. Today it's at 94 / 1. The UAW should be ecstatic....except for the fact that the transplants here generally are not affected by currency issues. US$ are US$.

The Prius tires are just normal Goodyear Integritys which are run of the mill small vehicle tires. The first Gen Prius had special tires but the the current model uses tires that are also used on Corollas, Civics and others of this size. Nothing special one way or another. $60 at Tire Rack.

Toyota said that it was a styling issue. They believe that the black buttons on the handle are unsightly. In addition I've found that initally consumers are confused by the button to the point where they think that they have to touch the inside handle and the black button at the same time in order to open the door. That's wrong, the two action actually cancel each other out. Thus the locking hash marks are moved to the front of the handle where one wouldn't touch them in a normal motion....only locking.

I'm replying to my own post - I took my P5 to the Mazda dealer in Raleigh, NC (Southern States Mazda) on Wednesday, armed with all the posts about the Intake Manifold Shutter Valve Emission Recall off www.mazdas247.com/forum, www.mazda3club.com/forum, and the issues I have had with the car. Even though I'm the second owner, the car's out of warranty and was sold new by another dealer, Southern States found the problem, had a new intake overnighted in, and I picked up the car today - NO CHARGE!! Happy Friggin' Thanksgiving to me!! The bolts from the intake were all missing, and in the compression chambers, and anytime the revs exceeded 5400, they started moving around and one got between the piston and the plug -twice. I'm totally lucky that the motor didn't bomb out. If you have the same problems, it's not compression or any of the other things I surmised - just a manufacturers defect that the dealers know exists. Make them do what they did for me and quit trying to figure it out, bizarre as it is...
2006 Envoy Transmission Issue
by berdman21 on Sun Nov 30 07:22:55 PST 2008
I have an 06 Envoy that is having the same issue. I was driving home from a thanksgiving vacation up I95 with my cruise set at 75 and all the sudden the truck began to slow and the RPM's went up to redline. Got off to the shoulder and tried to go again. Had first gear if I manually shifted it, but that was all. Stopped again and then started up. Shifted from first to second, but would not go into third. Had to drive in second gear up I95 for about 2 miles to the next exit. Truck had to be towed to a dealership in NC 700 miles away from my house. Now my family and I are stuck sitting here until it gets diagnosed on monday. Hopefully when I call GM Customer Service they will help me out a little.
